October’s Challenge:

This challenge is, by far, going to be the most open challenge that we’ve had up to this point, so I hope that there’s something in it for everyone and that we can coax even more participants out to play.

Abandon

Abandon means a lot of things –

tr.v. 1. To yield (oneself) without restraint or moderation; give (oneself) over to natural impulses, usually without self-control; to yield (oneself) completely, as to emotion.

n. 1. Unbounded enthusiasm; exuberance.
2. A complete surrender of inhibitions.

tr.v. 1. To withdraw protection, support, or help from – he abandoned his family
2. Mean to leave without intending to return. Can imply that the thing or person left may be helpless without protection – abandoned children

adj. Abandoned – Having been left without any intention of returning to or reclaiming – an abandoned house

Now, I have posted a few definitions to get people started, but any interpretation of the word is more than welcome.

I’d like to thank Kit Merlot for inspiring the last one. She suggested that we have holiday challenges. I know that not everyone has or is into Halloween, so I wanted to give people the opportunity to either tackle Halloween or not. And what could be more Halloweeny than a dark and spooky, abandoned house, ship, building, etc.

(On a small side note, keep the suggestions coming as I love them all and it makes it easier for me to be lazy adds a lot to the challenges by letting everyone have a part in it – add suggestions here: Monthly Fanfiction Challenge Theme Suggestion Thread)

I am really looking forward to seeing the submissions this month. Have fun with the idea and let your wonderfully creative minds run wild!

Also, there is a poll here: Should the challenge word limit be raised? Please, take a minute to go vote. The more input we get, the better.

Finished stories must be submitted to me by October 26th. PM me here - skauble.

If you haven’t already, please familiarize yourself with the rules.

Have fun and good luck!
