Guests can post replies in the fanfiction forums

In October, I’m allowing guests to comment on fanfictions in the fanfiction forums* (as a trial). If it doesn’t get spammed down, I might extend that period to January 1st 2012, since our forums are open for guests until January 1st 2012.

So let your non NS member friends know that they can, for a limited period, read and comment on fanfictions posted here on NS!

All posts made by guests will have to go through moderation, so it might take a 1 or 2 before they appear. This is not to sensor the content, just to make sure that spam doesn’t go through. And since I’ll be doing the moderation, I might not catch the posts right away due to different time zones and work!

What do you think? Good or bad idea? Let me know!

* Not the fanfiction graveyard forum.

Fanfiction Challenge — October — “Dark and Stormy Night”

In order to help build momentum and give people plenty of time, I’m posting this early to try to see if we can build these challenges back up to their former glory.

“Dark and Stormy Night”

October brings on the creepy factor so for this challenge, you must begin with the cliche line “It was a dark and stormy night…” What happens to Chloe and Lex on this dark and stormy night depends on you. Do they get caught in the rain on a long and winding road? Do they stay inside and learn each other’s deep dark secrets? Does a slasher villain terrorize the seemingly idyllic town of Smallville? Summary: Lex finds himself in the middle of a mistake he didn’t know he had made and the repercussions that follow. Will he take on the ultimate responsibility of his life and find his true self or follow his father’s demons?

Comment:

I read this fic a long time before joining NS and it’s remained one of my favourites. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve read it and enjoyed the slow progress of Chloe and Lex’s relationship from investigative partners to friends and then to something else.

Having our favourite pair work as a team again is a treat. I love the premise and the bittersweet circumstances under which Lex decides to break the silence and approach Chloe a year after the trial to help him with a very delicate matter.

I like Chloe a lot in this one but it’s Lex (as usual) and the AU superag came up with for him that manages to steal my heart every time. There’s angst and drama, yes, but there’s also a lot of tenderness and true friendship-even from those who used to be always prompt to judge him on the show. And, above all, there’s love and a chance for Lex to get what he’s always been denied.

Love comes softly for these two but I guarantee you’ll adore the journey.

Summer is upon us, and perhaps you’d like some light summer reading?

Many of us prefer doing some light reading when we’re lying on the beach, by the pool or something similar where we are simply relaxing!

Fanfiction Spotlight — July 2011 — Finding a Way Home (PG-13)

Title: Finding A Way Home

Spoilers: Season 2 of SV, Season 7 (so far) of SG-1

Pairings: Chlex, Dan/Jan, Sam/Jack

Summary: Chloe’s life is changed forever when her grandmother reveals a shocking secret- and two different worlds collide (spurred off of Imp’s challenge on BT2 list)

Comment:

Both SV and SG-1′s universes merge seamlessly in this fic to the point that they appear to have always been one. The author’s made a fantastic job with the characters and, especially, with the careful construction of the plot and everybody’s background- either canon or fictional.

This was the first Crossover story I ever read and one that I keep revisiting from time to time. In fact, I have to thank sydsvaughn’s talent for making me overcome my prejudice against reading Crossovers when one’s familiar with just half of the equation. If you’re averse to this type of fics or are worried about not being able to follow all the story’s nuances, I can guarantee this one will make you change your mind.

This is just the thing to pick up if you’re feeling nostalgic and eager to read something set in the old days, just after the summer of Lionel’s trial, when Chlex might have become canon if TPTB had had the guts and the vision.

“Finding A Way Home” will give you what might have been in a very entertaining package.There’s family, friendship, camaraderie, Chlex team work, adventure and yes, love, as Lex accompanies Chloe on a very special journey which will not only affect them both but also someone very close to them.
